Biography/Information:

  • Kothari was a renowned name in Billiards even before Sourav arrived at the world stage. His father, Manoj, was the IBSF World Billiards Champion in 1990.
  • Sourav not only followed in his father’s footsteps by playing this beautiful game of Billiards, but he has excelled at it also.
  • He became Asian Billiards Champion in 2014 and won a gold medal for India at the Asian Indoor Games in 2017. Since then, he has enjoyed tremendous consistency on the World Billiards circuit.
  • Kothari reached the final of the 2017 World Billiards Championship (short format), losing out to David Causier 8-4.
  • The following year, he achieved his lifelong ambition by becoming World Billiards Champion in Leeds, defeating Peter Gilchrist in the final by 1134 – 944. At the 2019 World Billiards Championship at the RACV Club in Melbourne, it was a repeat of the previous year’s final as Kothari once again faced Gilchrist, however he was unable to defend his title on this occasion as Gilchrist achieved his revenge.
  • Kothari rates Australia as one of his favourite countries to play in. Here he has also demonstrated his versatility when, in 2018, he took home the Reventon Snooker title and following this up by reaching the final of the Pacific International Billiards in a double-header in Melbourne.
