Refereeing – About

Become a referee:

The first step to becoming a qualified Billiards referee is to contact the National Governing Body for your country.

There are Regional Governing Bodies across the world, for example the European Billiards and Snooker Association (Europe), the Pan American Billiards and Snooker Association (Americas) and the African Billiards and Snooker Confederation (Africa). Within these bodies are National Governing Bodies (NGB) who are responsible for the sport in each individual country. Your NGB will advise on their procedure for qualifying referees and how you can get involved.

Most countries adopt a system where referees begin with a Class 3 examination. Once successful, it is recommended that you gain as much experience as possible, in order to progress in time to Class 2 and Class 1 respectively. Refereeing is a great way to get involved and enjoy the best view of what is happening on the table.
