Achievement(s):
- Matthew is one of Australia’s most successful players. From 2000 to 2020 he has won the Australian National Billiards Championship an incredible 17 times, closing in on the legendary Bob Marshall’s record of 21 titles.
- In World Billiards events, Matthew was runner-up in the 2011 and 2012 World Championships in Leeds and has won eight World ranking events to-date (2020).
- Matthew became the yongest ever WA State Billiards Champion at the age of 16 and has gone on to win this event on no less than 21 occasions to-date.
- He is also one of Australia’s top Snooker players. After winning the 2017 Oceania Snooker Championship he qualified for the professional World Snooker Tour where he played for one season from 2017-18. He is one of only four players to win both the Australian National Snooker Championship and Australian National Billiards Championship in the same year.
Biography/Information:
- Matthew first picked up a cue at the age of six, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather who were both Western Australian Champions.
- He has won a number of awards recognising his achievements in the sport, including the Bob Marshall medal on 5 occasions, the 882 6PR Special Achievement in Sport Award and the Australian Sports Medal.
- Matthew’s break of 809 in the 2017 Australian National Championship is the record break for this event, surpassing his previous record of 736 made in 2014. The record break prior to this was 702 by his mentor Bob Marshall which had stood since 1953.
