Achievement(s):

  • After recovering from a life changing road accident, John was brought into the national and international level refereeing arena by Tom Hughes and Clive Scott.
  • At World Championships, John has refereed two finals, a semi-final and a quarter-final to-date (2020). He has taken charge of the Scottish Open, English Amateur and English Grand Masters finals, as well as matches in the British, English, Irish and European Opens on the WBL circuit.
  • He has officiated at numerous ‘ABC’ events for the EABA, and is also active on the local scene, having refereed for leagues on the Wirral, Merseyside and Middlesbrough.

Biography/Information:

  • John was born in Wallasey in 1947 to a policeman and housewife. After leaving grammar school he started an engineering apprenticeship with Vauxhall, first at Luton and then Ellesmere Port.
  • He stayed in different branches of engineering until medically retired at 61 as a Parts Manager.
  • John has played league Billiards and Snooker at his local club – Eastham Home Guard – where he is the Membership Secretary.
  • Happily married to Helen for over 49 years, he has two adult sons.
