Achievement(s):

  • John has played 19 times for the Republic of Ireland to-date (2020) in various international team events such as the Four Nations, Home Internationals, North-South Challenge and the first and only World Team Championship in Glasgow in 2014.
  • In WBL events, John’s best performance was reaching the semi-finals of the Northern Snooker Centre Open in 2014.
  • He has won three Irish intermediate titles (150-up format) in addition to five County Wexford singles titles. At local level, three Co. Wexford League and three knockout cup triumphs are among his highlights, as well as winning a Co. Wexford Snooker knockout cup with a three-man team that included his dad Andy and lifelong family friend Paddy Mythen.
  • John is also a well-respected referee, currently holding his Class 2 certificate at Billiards and Class 3 at Snooker. His biggest honour as a referee was taking charge of the 2017 World Billiards Championship final (long-up format) in Leeds. He also has other WBL finals on his CV, including the European Open final in 2017, the Irish Open final in 2018 and the Northern Snooker Centre Open finals in 2017 and 2019.

Biography/Information:

  • John was born on the 6th September 1987 in Wexford, Ireland and was educated at Ballindaggin National School and Bunclody Vocational College.
  • John took up Billiards aged 14 in 2002, not long after being introduced to Snooker a few months previously.
  • John started playing Billiards at National level in 2011 and he won his first title on his debut, which was the first intermediate ranking event of the 2011-12 season. He progressed to playing senior Billiards in March 2013 and took up refereeing in August 2015.
  • In May 2019, John took over from Brendan Devlin as the Tournament Director for senior Billiards ranking events and Republic of Ireland’s Team Manager in international events.
  • John’s biggest influences are the late Pat Dunne who introduced him to Billiards and Snooker when he was only 14. He is also very grateful for the support of Brandan Devlin and Ger Murray who have guided him to become a top referee.
