Landywood to host 2023 World Billiards Championship
World Billiards can today announce that Landywood Snooker Club near Birmingham in England has been chosen as the venue for the 2023 World Billiards Championship, to be held later this year.
The premier Billiards event on the World stage will be played in the UK for the first time since 2018, with the last two championships in 2022 and 2019 being held in Singapore and Melbourne respectively. The famous John Roberts trophy, dating back to 1870, will again be the centrepiece of this historic event.
There will be a level 3 World Ranking event over the weekend of 14-15th October, followed by the timed format World Championship from 16-19th October.
Situated around 20 miles from Birmingham, Landywood reopened following significant refurbishment in 2021 and has quickly established itself as one of the country’s finest venues, boasting four Star tables among 12 tables in all. The surroundings throughout the club are fitting for prestigious events. Landywood have already staged events on the WPBSA Q Tour and World Women’s Snooker circuit, and are looking forward to hosting World Billiards for the first time.
Paul Lloyd, owner of the Landywood Snooker Club, said: “Landywood Snooker Club are delighted to have been appointed as the host venue for this year’s World Billiards Championship. As a club we feel honoured and privileged to have been given the opportunity to hold this most prestigious event here at Landywood Snooker Club and we are all extremely excited to share this fantastic news”.
Jason Colebrook, World Billiards Managing Director, said: “I’m very pleased to see the World Championship returning to the UK this year, after successful events in Australia and Singapore, and a couple of Covid years with no championship. I sincerely hope that all the players who qualify will be free to compete at Landywood, if that is their wish”.
Further details will be announced in due course.
