A 9 dart finish, a maximum 147 break, a hole in one. To achieve any of these feats takes great skill, hours of practice, passion and dedication to the sport. However, in the world of Billiards it could be argued that achieving a 1,000 break is more difficult than all of those. The concentration and skill levels that need to be shown over such a sustained period of time makes the 1,000 break surely a greater achievement than all of the above.
So, on this basis we are pleased to announce a £1000 prize for the next player that is able to hit the 1,000 break during a WBL event.*
History Of 1000 Breaks Made So Far:
Below is a list of players from the modern era that have achieved the coveted 1,000 break during matchplay.
Michael Ferreira’s 1,149 in the Indian National Championship was followed by a 995 on the same day. This was played under the rule permitting five pot reds off the spot before being placed on the centre spot.
Mike Russell’s 1,137 included a 735 in the same match.
Peter Gilchrist’s 1,000 in 2014 remains the only four-figure break in a WBL event.
